The January winner was a black Nissan Z with fluorescent green vinyl. Not only did it win first place in the public polls, the staff all agreed it was the one.
The owner, Chris often comes out to our events and has participated in a shoot before. Chris purchased the car with fairly low miles in early 2012 from Des Moines, Iowa. With 8,500 miles and a few mods, this was the right choice for him. He wanted something as close to stock as possible since he knew he would be hit with the “mod bug” after owning his first Z.
In the beginning, the plan for the Z was for it to be a track car, but that didn’t quite go as planned. Chris loved the way his Z looked and couldn’t bring himself to track the car at first. Chris decided to continue with enhancing the Z’s look. He added carbon fiber in various places including the engine cover and fenders as well as a chrome strut bar and other cosmetic and performance mods. It all came together nicely with TE37SL’s and a pair of Recaros for the inside.
He finally decided to try the Z on the track, and he was hooked instantly. No more show car, it was now time for the transformation into track car. He sold most of the carbon fiber parts as well as some other parts to make room for his new hobby. The Z didn’t need to look pretty on the course, it just needed to make good time.
The car is pretty much a track car now, you can see it in action a couple of weekends out of the month.
